To me, it seems like a lot of the young adult authors that are popular today tend to lean towards female characters who are all fighting for something. Whether it's freedom, love, or life itself, after awhile you realize that it's the same scenario over and over again. There's nothing wrong with that because sometimes it's not what's written but how its written, but you can start to see a pattern that does make a few of these plots rather predictable if the writer isn't careful.
There's also the authors who try to do the shock value too much, which ends up making their story too far fetched to believe. I don't blame them, though; I love shocking readers, too. But there comes a time when you have to learn that some stories just can't take it. It's either not necessary or doesn't fit with the overall plot. Sometimes as a writer you have to put aside your own interests and let the story tell itself.
