What is your advice for a new assistant professor at the beggining of your carrer?

Congratulations on your new appointment! As a new assistant professor, you want to be focused on being a TENURED associate professor. I would review carefully the criteria for promotion and tenure and map out your teaching, scholarship, and practice goals to ensure you meet the criteria. I would seek advice from your department chair and your peers as to how best to meet those goals. As a new professor, you will be offered many opportunities for engagement in teaching, research, and practice. You might ask yourself – and those offering those opportunities – ‘How will this help me meet tenure criteria?’. The answer may not be obvious and clear cut in many instances – and you may decide to do them because it’s important to you. That’s fine. Just make sure you keep a good balance. Best of luck!
