If there is one thing the church can be doing better to serve disadvantaged children in the US, what would it be?
I believe many churches are serving disadvantaged children to the best of their ability, but also, I believe that the focus has to go beyond the disadvantaged child. Service must focus on the disadvantaged family, or how the service to the child can impact the family as a whole. Sometimes, we forget that the child still has to go back home to their environment, and environment impacts powerfully. We easily gravitate toward helping children because we see them as vulnerable, but we must also understand that those who make up the family were once vulnerable as well.
