  • Internship before I enter college?

Do you think it’s a good idea to do an internship before college begins? I’m knowledgeable in some basic front-end work -CSS/HTML. I’m planning to intern at a startup nearby who offered me a job. I would be the youngest one and this is my first job ever. Not sure if this is odd for me to take up on and if it's worth spending the one summer I have free to spend time with family and friends.

If you're willing to forfeit the family/friends time for the summer (hey you still get weekends!), starting an internship before college begins would give you a huge jumpstart in your career.

A Freshman with internship experience would stand far out from the rest of the crowd, especially if you have career fairs/recruiters that visit your college. Also note that if you're looking at the big companies, they have highly competitive Freshman summer programs (summer after your first year at college) and already having an internship on your resume when you apply for these programs would give you the edge on many other applicants.

All in all, I think it's a great opportunity, one that I think most CSE majors would agree to have loved to have before college.
