Many people have said that Rails has not kept up with the front-end frameworks in providing a top-notch user experience. Do you believe this is true?
My stance in this argument is agnostic. AngelList is a monolithic, server-side-oriented application. Whether or not we'll stay that course is undetermined—it looks more and more like we'll be modularizing a lot of the application. I have friends working on applications that are designed as you've described, and it's going great for them. I think it's especially great if your product is simple and you can distill it into an API from a very early stage. AngelList is not a simple product, so I think we'll always have a very heavyweight backend.
