That is a good question and one that would have a lot of varied answers. In the far NW part of Iowa, many of the farmers are descendants of Dutch immigrants who came to the US for religious freedom. The family traditions that put an emphasis on Church and its part in their lives is very much still there.
Farming is a risky business, but one that is very much layered with traditions. That said, farmers today have to be tech savvy in an ever more complicated business.
